geoFAX Takes the 64 Beyond Its Capabilities!

What is geoFAX?

geoFAX is the first and only fax program ever developed for the Commodore 64 or 128. It runs in the GEOS environment and is designed primarily to send and receive faxes with other fax machine over telephone wires.

But is is more than fax software. It is designed for GEOS and is geared up to work with GeoPaint files. You can create your own fax documents using GeoPaint and then use geoFAX to send  them as actual fax documents. The conversion to fax format takes place as geoFAX is sending the document.

Incoming faxes are automatically saved to disk as fax documents. Later on, you have the option of printing them as they are or converting them to GeoPaint documents. This makes geoFAX an excellent tool for scanning graphics for GeoPaint use. All the fax tools, printing tools, and conversion tools are built right into one program. There isn't any difficult installation procedures of any sort. It's all there when you run geoFAX.

Converting to GeoPaint

When you are converting a fax to a GeoPaint file, you have the option of controlling how the resulting image will appear. Due to the GeoPaint resolution being much lower than a fax image, you will lose quite a bit of detail. But you can adjust to a certain degree how the image will appear by using geoFAX's contrast and brightness settings that are used during the conversion to GeoPaint.

Printing your faxes

geoFAX has printing functions for not only printing geoFAX documents, but it can also be used for printing any GeoPaint file. Since a fax document is a higher resolution than a normal GEOS file such as a GeoPaint, geoFAX comes supplied with enough special printer drivers to cover just about any printer you might be using that can handle the resolution of a fax image.

There are special drivers for the popular Espon compatible printers in both 9 pin and 24 pin versions. There are also drivers for the HPLaserJet and DeskJet printers, as well as the Canon BubbleJet printers, and also any printer that supports PostScript.

Phone Directory

geoFAX has a built-in utility for storing all your most popular phone numbers that you send faxes to. A simple click on a directory listing prepares geoFAX for you. For other numbers, geoFAX also allows you to manually enter a phone number. Or you pick up the phone and discover that a fax machine is calling you, geoFAX can be started in a manual mode and will begin taking the incoming fax. Likewise, you can be already talking to someone on the phone and if the other person wants to start a fax machine manually, you can do so also at your end with geoFAX.

Other built-in functions

geoFAX has some other nice features built in, including a file copier, file deleter, and file renamer. These are handy when you are working with many faxes and need to either get rid of some or move them to other disks. This saves having to exit to the Desktop to perform the chore.

Auto-answer mode

Want to set up a 64 to receive faxes while you're away? geoFAX can do it for you. It has an auto-answer mode that will monitor the modem and pick up any incoming call. If it's a fax call, it will be accepted and saved to disk for you.

Sending multiple pages

geoFAX can send multiple geoFAX documents or GeoPaint documents or any combination of the two. Your first fax can be a cover page if you desire, followed by any number of additional pages.
