If you're like most GEOS users, you love its point-and-click interface and icons but are tired of the poor output quality. Well, Perfect Print is about to change all of that by offering you laser like output from your 9 or 24 pin printer. Impossible you say? Not hardly... Perfect Print is a powerful collection of custom printer drivers (LQ for geoWrite/HQ for all GEOS applications) and fonts for GEOS which utilize the high resolution modes that are built-in to most IBM, Epson or NEC compatible printers. Perfect Print is capable of printing at 240x216 dpi on 9 pin printers and 360x360 dpi on 24 pin printers. So when you compare standard GEOS output at 80x72, you can really see the difference.

How is this possible? Well, it takes some pretty tricky programming and complex mathematical equations. Perfect Print's LQ fonts and drivers work like this. Perfect Print determines what density it will be printing in and selects a new point size based on that density, for example 24 points to print 8 point type at triple density. Since three times as many dots fit into the same area at triple density, a 24 point character comes out the same size as 8 point does in standard density. Additional calculations smooth out jagged curves and lines.

HQ drivers support all GEOS applications and work in a somewhat different fashion because characters are handled as graphics which means that there is no printer font from which it can compare. Basically, HQ drivers simply determine the beginning and end points of a given image. It then calculates the center point and places dots along that line as it sees fit resulting in a dramatically improved output.

Special Features you ask? Perfect Print also offers a variety of convenience features that make printing easier. Features like its multiple copy print allow you to print multiple copies while the printer is unattended, GEOCABLE compatibility makes for much faster printing on Centronics printers and LQ Border fonts allow you to put eye catching borders around geoWrite documents. And if that weren't already enough, Perfect Print comes with a Font Editor for creating your own LQ or HQ fonts and a print quality control that allows you to print in draft, medium and high quality modes to maximize the output speed.
