CMD Product Y2K Information
Several CMD products include or may optionally include components
that maintain time and date, often referred to as real-time clocks
or RTCs. This document describes how these components will perform
in relation to Year 2000 issues.
CMD make no guarantee or warranty with regard to the
information provided here, or with the usability of this information, or
the usability of our devices for any specific purpose, with or without
regard to Y2K issues, and accepts no responsiblity for the loss of data,
consequences of the loss of data, or any other damages related to the use
of this information or our devices.

Y2K Compatibility
All time-keeping components used in CMD products use
a 2-digit year format and are classified as Y2K compatible. Since
these devices do not maintain a full 4-digit year, and do not have a century
flag or register, these components do not qualify as Y2K compliant.
Y2K Rollover
All time-keeping components used in CMD devices have
passed testing for Y2K rollover. This means that the devices will continue
to operate correctly when the date rolls over from December 31, 1999 to
January 1, 2000.
Leap Year Calculations
All time-keeping components used in CMD devices have
passed testing for correct leap-year calcuations for Y2K compatible devices.
This means that the devices will correctly determine when to advance to
February 29 or March 1 up through the year 2099.
Operating System Issues
While the components used in CMD devices are Y2K compatible,
Y2K compliance of the CMD devices themselves depends on how the device
makes use of the time and date supplied by the time-keeping components.
Issues with Y2K compliance for CMD devices are listed below.
CMD FD Series (all models with optional RTC installed)
CMD HD Series (all models)
CMD RAMLink (all models with optional RTC installed)
These devices use GEOS-compatible time and date stamping
for file date information. This format is a 2-digit year format that is
Y2K compatible. Issue: Selective directory listings by date do not take
the century into account, and attempting to list file directories using
this method will fail to return proper results if the starting date and
ending date specified are from different centuries.
SmartMouse and SmartTrack
These devices have no operating system, and therefore
have no built-in issues with Y2K compliance.
Additional Notes
Since the time-keeping components in all CMD devices
use a 2-digit year format, specific software issues with Y2K can arise
depending on how an individual program makes use of the time and date information
provided.
