The Wave
Telecommunications for your Commodore Now you can enjoy graphical web browsing on your Commodore 64 or Commodore 128. "The Wave" makes this all possible.
NOTE: The Wave requires a Commodore 64 or 128 running Wheels (GEOS upgrade)
with a SuperCPU and at least 4mb of SuperRAM memory.
For some interesting reading, check out Colin
Thomson's site. Colin has been compiling some of the more important
messages that have taken place during the development of The Wave. You'll
also find a great deal of information on the workings of this software
as well as ideas that will likely be incorporated as the software continues
to develop.
After a year of development and beta testing, version 1.0 is finally ready for it's initial public release and you can download it right here for free. BETA TEST PAGE - If you're adventurous and enjoy trying out the latest and greatest, You can check out the latest beta version of The Wave instead of the release version. There are several different ways to obtain the software, depending on
your system. There is a handy installer application that contains every
file you will need. By simply double-clicking on the installer icon, it
will load up and allow you to choose the directory where you would like
all the Wave files installed. The installer even includes an upgraded Toolbox
to replace the one that came with your Wheels system. And for the 64, there's
also some upgraded mouse drivers. Wave64 will crash if you don't use one
of these new drivers. There's one minor drawback to this installer, it's
BIG! Since it's over 260K in size, it won't fit on a 1541 disk, so if you
don't have at least a 1571 drive, you won't be able to use the installer
program. You'll still be able to get all the files you need in two handy
Wraptor archives that can be extracted to two 1541 disks.
Installer for the 64 Both files here are in Convert 2.5 format. Install64Docs
- (13K) documentation file for the installer.
Or there are two other ways to download the above files. The .WR3 files
require Wraptor V3 to dearchive while the .ZIP files
can be unzipped and converted with Todd Elliott's GunZIP
GEOS application that runs in Wheels.
Installer for the 128 Both files here are in Convert 2.5 format. Install128Docs
- (10K) documentation file for the installer.

For 1541 drives Use these files if you only have a 1541 drive. You can get all the files you need in two separate Wraptor'd archives. Then dearchive the files onto two 1541 disks. You can run The Wave from a 1541 drive, but for best results, you should create a ramdisk, either a RAM1581 or a larger native ramdisk. Then copy all the files from the two 1541 disks to the ramdisk. NOTE: If the ramdisk resides within the SuperRAM, don't make the ramdisk too large or there won't be enough memory left over for The Wave to use when it runs. This method won't work if you only have a 1meg SIMM, since The Wave needs at least that much memory when running. For Wheels 64, get these two files:
For Wheels 128, get these two files:
NOTE: There's no doubt that The Wave will eventually outgrow the 1541, and most likely even the 1571. I would recommend looking around for a good used 1581 or give Click Here Software a call and start thinking about a brand new FD, HD, or RamLink. You won't be disappointed.
Wraptor V3 A note to help you with Wraptored files... after downloading a file and moving it to a Commodore disk for unwrapping, be sure that the file is a PRG type file and the filename ends with .wr3 in lowercase PETASCII characters (UPPERCASE in Wheels). If not, Wraptor won't list it in the file requestor. Wraptor is a good program to use for GEOS type files because it can convert and archive in one operation and it works with multiple files. Wraptor runs outside of GEOS/Wheels, yet it can work with GEOS type files. Download Wraptor V3 for .wr3 files right now. This file is called wraptor3.exe. After you download it, just rename it to Wraptor3 without the .exe extension. Download Wraptor V1 for .wra files (this includes the documentation). This file is called wraptor.sda. After you download it, load and run it in 64 mode to self dissolve the files. The main thing you need here is the documentation in order to understand how Wraptor V3 works. |
